We have all seen the weather forecast; it is going to be boiling hot in the next few days. This affects us as humans – sweaty spots, bad sleep and dry mouth – but it affects our green amigos just as much. To make sure they are not all greenhouse plants after this week, here are 5 tips to keep your plants cool.
1. Avoid direct sunlight
The sun is very bright at the moment and can easily burn many houseplants if they are placed directly in front of a window. So, temporarily move the plants to a shaded area to reduce the heat. For the clever ones: sunscreens are of no use.
2. Water in the morning or evening
If at all possible, water early in the morning or later in the evening. It is not as warm then, so the water does not evaporate as quickly and the roots have more time to absorb the water.
You can assume that your plant will need twice as much water as usual during these warm days. Take into account what kind of plant you have and estimate how much water your amigo needs on the basis of the potting soil. Do you want to know the exact amount? Our Plantsome app takes into account the weather forecast and notifies you of the exact amount of water your plant needs.
